For 48 years, challenger motor freight has delivered leading transportation, warehousing and logistics services. The company provides LTL, truckload, rail transport, intermodal and expedite shipping across Canada and the United States. Challenger also offers a variety of supply chain management services, including third-party logistics and on-site warehousing. The company is committed to corporate responsibility and environmental stewardship, with its Ontario headquarters earning LEED certification. Challenger is also a member of SmartWay, the voluntary program that fosters fuel efficiency in freight supply chains.
The Canadian logistics company is expanding its flatbed and heavy-specialized capacity by acquiring the assets of dry van truckload carrier Ed Wiersma Trucking Inc. in Kitchener, Ontario. Challenger also announced a pay increase for all drivers that takes effect March 30. The move will boost the company’s capacity as demand for freight hauling services continues to climb.
Challenger will add the truckload and specialty services of the flatbed carrier challenger freight to its existing suite, which includes dry van truckload, intermodal and drayage services. The expanded fleet will include more than 4,000 trucks and trailers, along with over 1.2 million square feet of facility space and 5,500 pieces of equipment. The new company will have the capacity to support customers with supply chain management solutions, e-commerce, home delivery and distribution services.
The acquisition of the flatbed and specialty truckload carrier strengthens Challenger’s capabilities in the special commodities market, particularly for automotive parts and over-dimensional freight. The company also plans to expand its service offerings in the US through partnerships with other flatbed carriers, such as Fastfrate Group and Sandrock Specialized Carriers.
Sandrock has been a long-time partner of Challenger’s. The companies’ partnership with Kuebix Load Match, which matches spot rates with shippers’ capacity requirements, provided Challenger with early success on the spot market and RFP wins on contracted business. In turn, that success made it possible for the company to build long-term direct connections with shippers.
Challenger Motor Freight has been named one of the Best Fleets to Drive For in a nationwide survey and contest conducted by the Truckload Carriers Association and CarrierEdge. The award is given to for-hire truckload fleets that meet a range of criteria, including driver compensation, safety programs and benefits, driver satisfaction and community support.
NexTech AR Solutions Corp. (NTAR:CSE; NEXCF:OTCQB) has partnered with Challenger to develop an augmented reality experience for its drivers. NexTech will provide the company with augmented reality holograms that allow drivers to learn more about the company and its First Class Driving Experience. The augmented reality (AR) assets will help the company attract and retain top drivers in a highly competitive industry. The companies expect to complete the development of the assets this year.
